The person who’ll be looking after you
We know choosing a piercer is a personal decision.
Learning a little about the person behind the gloves can help you feel more at ease before your appointment.
Here’s Christy’s story, where it all began, what inspires her, and what she loves most about helping people feel more themselves.
Why piercing
Oof, so many things.. how can I pick just one? I feel so lucky to have a job that I genuinely love; it’s a hard thing to find. It’s challenging and there’s always new things to learn which certainly keeps it interesting. But most of all, I love helping people become a little more themselves and supporting them through that journey.
How it all began
I first started piercing many years ago in a tattoo studio, and even then I always had this feeling that I wanted to keep improving and learning more.
A little while into my journey, I saw Nicole commenting online that if anyone ever wanted to learn more, ask questions, or just reach out, they’d always be welcome to do so.
So, I did.
I started coming through to Newcastle with friends to visit the studio, and I immediately clicked with the space, the team, and the whole atmosphere of Blue Lotus. It just felt right.
All of this was before Covid, and somewhere in the middle of all that chaos I ended up moving to Newcastle — which, looking back, really was the beginning of such an important chapter in both my personal and professional journey.
The piercings that mean the most to me
Its a tough choice between my vertical labret or industrial piercing, can I pick both?!
My industrial was my first cartilage piercing almost 15 years ago. I’m currently wearing two tourmalinated quartz King End bullets at either end of a barbell, all from Anatometal.
My vertical labret was pierced by our Nici a couple years before I worked here at Blue Lotus! It holds such fond memories of the first time I visited, and the beginning of a wonderful friendship and journey to moving here. I am currently wearing an amethyst bezel and a tourmalinated quartz King End bullet to match my industrial.
For fun
- Would you rather have one huge eye or three tiny eyes?
As much as I’d love to be Leela from Futurama.. I’d have to go with 3 eyes for the depth perception – can’t be piercing without that!
- If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
To be able to digest any and all foods. That’s a superpower right?! You’ll find me in a cheese coma. Worth it.
- Jewellery styles are changing rapidly, what is your new favourite ‘thing’?
I am loving that the 90s are back, and I love chains and charms – on everything!!
Outside the studio
Outside of the studio, you’ll usually find me at a gig or festival somewhere — live music has always been a huge part of my life, and I love the atmosphere of being out with people and enjoying something together.
At home, I’m kept firmly in line by my Maine Coon cat, who definitely has an attitude and very much likes to make sure everyone knows who’s in charge.
